The world needs more entrepreneurs who will stop at nothing to create a truly great company. In the 21st century, “truly great” means being able to create shared value for all stakeholders, including customers, employees, financers, and future generations.
High potential entrepreneurs who want to build impactful companies exist everywhere, in every community, in every industry across the world. Yet the systems to find, connect, and empower these entrepreneurs are still weak. The capital markets to support early stage entrepreneurs operating in poor communities are typically weak and underdeveloped.
“Impact investing” is the practice of deploying financial capital to create measurable social and or environmental impact while also making a financial return. The term “impact investing” was coined at a gathering in 2007 in Bellagio, Italy hosted by the Rockefeller Foundation. Impact investing is an integrated, holistic approach to financing that seeks, ultimately, to get the right resources to the right entrepreneurs who can turn capital into measurable positive impact or society. Impact investors believe that our ability to improve human welfare and protect our planet depends on improving the quality and quantity of entrepreneurial activity across the globe. Early stage impact investing in particular has enormous development benefits – getting capital to companies at a critical inflection point when the values and growth trajectory of the company are still being formed and when the capital is most needed. Early stage impact investing can also be very risky and is not for the faint of heart.
Agora works with early-stage, high-growth companies focused on solving social problems that are at an inflection point and need capital to accelerate their growth. Companies typically have revenue between $100,000 to $1 million and 5-20 employees. There are many reasons to finance Agora companies if you are serious about creating sustainable positive impact.
