We live in a time of unprecedented change and opportunity. What started as a small loan in 1976 from a young economics professor in Bangladesh turned into a billion dollar industry to provide small loans to people previously deemed unbankable. The microfinance revolution paved the way for a new revolution – using the tools of capitalism to support a new generation of impact entrepreneurs who can help address the many challenges we face.
The impact investing and impact entrepreneurship movement looks different than development movements in the past. It is less hierarchical and involves citizens from across the globe. Most critically, it creates opportunities for different kinds of people to engage decisively to make the world a better place.
