Agora’s focus is on early stage, high growth impact entrepreneurs whose businesses operate in low-income communities. We target businesses in the "missing middle" - small enterprises usually with five to fifty employees that are too large for microfinance loans yet too small for commercial banks and other traditional sources of capital.
We are passionate about helping impact entrepreneurs create and grow competitive businesses that are good for society and the planet. We currently operate in Central America.
“Impact entrepreneur” is the term Agora uses for entrepreneurs whose businesses make strong, positive contributions to their communities. We use the term broadly to indicate an entreprenuer who is willfully working to create positive economic, social, and environmental impact through their business. We actively look to connect these businesses with investors and development professionals involved in the impact investing industry. In general, impact investors invest in impact entreprenuers.
Impact entrepreneurs often run companies that:
• Create jobs for low income workers
• Sell products and services needed by and accessible to the poor
• Generate economic activity beyond their business
• Help protect the environment
Most importantly, impact entrepreneurs are community leaders - role models that inspire those around them to think big, take calculated risks, and make a significant difference at the local level. As their businesses grow, impact entrepreneurs become advocates for small and growing businesses that foster sustainable approaches to development worldwide.
Consulting from Agora has changed the way I think, as I have learned to take calculated risks, and to set short and long term goals in all areas of the company so it will grow in a sustainable and finacially healthy way.
