Agora Consultants act as advisors, strategists, connectors, community builders, and executors to help purpose-driven entrepreneurs access the knowledge, networks, and capital they need to grow their businesses. The work of Agora Consultants is critical to building efficient early-stage capital markets and to helping impact investors address their barriers to investment including under-prepared deal flow, high transaction costs, and few co-investment opportunities.
Consultants form the core of the Agora Accelerator program, typically working with three-to-five companies on growth and investment strategy per Accelerator Cycle. Consultants work under the direction of the Accelerator Manager and have significant responsibility, autonomy, and opportunity to lead consulting engagements and contribute to the growth of Agora Partnerships.
ORIENTATION, TRAINING AND RETREAT PREPARATION
Start: early January
Duration: 3-4 weeks
Location: Mexico City or Managua
The Agora Consulting Fellowship starts with orientation focused on team-building, leadership development, Accelerator Methodology introduction, and exposure to impact investing initiatives across Agora. Throughout the period, Consultants meet with Agora leadership as well as investors and entrepreneurs from the Agora Network in Latin America.
During training, Consultants learn Agora’s consulting methodology and conduct peer trainings to prepare for the Accelerator. Additionally, Consultants begin to onboard companies, launching the diagnostic process in preparation for the upcoming four-months of business consulting. Consultants also assist with the planning of the Agora Entrepreneur Retreat and begin to engage in strategic initiatives. Consultants are provided housing during onboarding, and typically take advantage of weekends to explore the cities, beaches, and mountains of Mexico or Nicaragua.
Start: early February
Duration: 1 week
Location: Tepoztlán, Mexico or Granada, Nicaragua
The Agora Entrepreneur Retreat kicks off each Accelerator cycle. Together for four days of community-building and rejuvenation, the incoming class of entrepreneurs learn and collaborate alongside the Agora team, investors, and industry experts. Consultants lead valuable workshops and activities throughout the week with focus on developing relationships with entrepreneurs and preparing companies for consulting. For an overview of last year’s retreat click here.
Duration: 4 months
Location: Agora hub office in Latin America
Following the Entrepreneur Retreat, Consultants travel to one of Agora Partnerships’ hub offices in Latin America (exact office is determined based on client location and Consultant preference, and is communicated prior to start date). During the consulting phase, Consultants have weekly consulting sessions with each company to co-create strategic solutions and develop growth and investment deliverables. Consultants also support their clients in connecting with mentors and preparing to raise investment capital. While the consulting consists of a mix of virtual and in-person interactions, a major effort is made to align Consultant and company locations. In situations where they are not co-located, Consultants can travel to visit their portfolio companies in-person.
ACCESS TO CAPITAL
During the second half of the consulting phase, Consultants and entrepreneurs are fully focused on developing growth plans, identifying capital needs, and preparing investor communications. As the ultimate goal of the Accelerator is to facilitate access to capital, Consultants support companies with investor matchmaking and planning investor meetings at industry events.
